Fairfield? Vacaville? I hardly think of those as places I want to spend any time in, but it turns out they're beautiful and there's great cycling. I did this ride for the first time last year, when Tony led it during his Forty and Fabulous series, and really, really enjoyed it. In fact, I enjoyed it so much that I thought I'd incorporate it into this year's Winter/Spring series. I've modified Tony's route a bit so that there's less climbing in the afternoon, and more miles overall. 50 miles and 1,500 feet climbing is just about right for the early-season base building we want to do at the beginning of this series.

This ride starts in Fairfield and takes in the beautiful Pleasants Valley Road through orchards and vineyards almost all the way to Winters. Putah Creek Road takes us into Winters for lunch, and then we'll wander around a little through orchards in the flats east of Winters, and do part of the climb back over the hill (but not the hard 14% part). Then we'll make our way to  downtown Vacaville and back to Fairfield.

This is the 6th ride in a 2023 Winter/Spring series to help people gear up for late spring and summer riding, including the Chico Wildflower ride, AIDS/LifeCycle or your first metric or century of the year or ever! We'll have longer and more difficult rides as the series progresses. We'll ride routes all over the Bay Area. Most routes will be without a whole lot of stop signs and lights. We'll try not to ride in the rain, and there won't be a safety speech.

Don't have a car but want to come? Post a message to the Spokers forum on dssf.org and see if another member can help you out.

Meals: Steady Eddy's or El Pueblo Meat Market in Winters. Coffee stop in downtown Vacaville.

Sweeps? No

Is this a "no rider left behind" ride? No, but we will have a few regroups. We will keep an eye out for each other but if you are a new rider please either know the route or bring a map in case you get dropped from the group.
