Lake Chabot and the Three Bears of Redwood Road

About this event

Note: You must register to join this ride.

This is a lovely loop ride beginning with a roll along the Oakland shoreline before heading east up into the hills and trees of Chabot and Redwood Regional Parks and descending again to the start.

The ride starts and ends at Fruitvale BART station. The route passes near Bay Fair BART so we could possibly pick up folks who might use that station instead.

9:15 AM meet up
9:30 AM ride out

RWGPS Route here:  GPS

For those who don't want to do the whole 42-mile ride, there are shorter options:

Short: Easy flat ride through MLK Jr. Shoreline and Bay Farm Island by OAK. Bailout at Bay Fair BART around mile 17.1
Intermediate:  Bailout after the first major climb. Go south on Redwood Road at Mile 21.3 to Castro Valley BART station.
Long: 42.1 miles with 2,520 ft. ascent. Ride is primarily flat until Mile 17.8.

Is this a no-drop ride? No. However, there are will be several regroups (see below). Riders new to the route should download maps/cue sheets to their phones using the above link.

Highlights:
Mile 12.9:  Restrooms at Marina Park.  Also plenty of restrooms along MLK Jr. Shoreline
Mile 19:  Team photos and regroup on the first climb
Mile 22.6  Restrooms and water @ Redwood Canyon Golf Course
Mile 33.6: Restroom, water, and re-group
Mile 36.7:  Lunch in Montclair Village (Falafel Corner, 6106 La Salle Avenue, Oakland)
