The Ride
This ride is for the midweek, mid-day bike warriors. It's a relatively short but intense route that dispenses with warm up and climbs up and over the Oakland Hills. The brief Bay views are rewarding before dropping into the eastern flank on Redwood Road (descending 600ft in 2.7 miles). Turn @Pinehurst Road and climb some more hills before plunging into redwood forests. Then turn @Canyon Road for a brief push to arrive at Moraga. Once we hook onto the multi-use Lafayette/Moraga Regional Trail (15 mph limit), it's a mostly flat, easy ride that almost imperceptibly drops into Lafayette.
This hard, sweaty ride is rewarded with a happy ending @
Happy Hour in the East Bay that retraces the Lafayette-Moraga Trail to Moraga Commons Park and back at easy pace amongst swell company. (Meet 5:15pm for 5:30pm departure should you choose to stay and participate. We're going to get food and socialize afterwards! Please sign up for the
Happy Hour in the East Bay separately.)
Note: This an Intermediate to Advanced ride based on Terrain and Pace and not a casual training ride. The eastern flank and inland valleys will be 10-15 degrees warmer than the Bay side. Bring snacks and water (ideally 2 bottles packed with ice), along with your helmet and an extra tube and tire changing kit.
Please check the weather forecast and dress accordingly. If you stay for the Happy Hour Ride, note that sunset is around 8:30 PM and you may want to pack warmer layers.
Sweeps? No
Is this a "no rider left behind" ride? No, but we will have a few regroups. We will keep an eye out for each other but if you are a newer rider, please either know the route or bring a map in case you get dropped from the group.
***There's no cell signal upon descent on Redwood Road until Moraga. GPS might still work.***
***If you wait until the day of the ride to sign up, please email the ride leader. Ride leader may limit capacity based on conditions.***
