The Ride
Time to show off those climbing legs!! This loop is one of the well-loved and challenging routes on the Midpeninsula, with climbs up Old La Honda (OLH) Road, Haskins Hill, Stage Road, and finally Tunitas Creek Road. We'll meet at the Woodside Town Hall parking lot at 9:15 am. At 9:30 we'll head to the lovely Mountain Home Road to Portola, and then on to our ascent up OLH, a classic climb! We cross Skyline and drop down to Highway 84 and to La Honda, where we turn off and climb Pescadero Creek Road (Haskins Hill), another quiet road. We’ll stop for a snack/lunch break at Loma Mar. Then it’s onto Pescadero, and north on Stage Road (snack stop at San Gregorio General Store). Finally, we'll turn right on Highway 1 and descend quickly. Soon after a narrow bridge (no shoulder-fast traffic-be careful), we'll go right on Tunitas Creek Road, a long redwood-lined climb back to Skyline. Enjoy a snack (also porto pottie) at the famous "Bike Hut" before the climb starts in earnest. After congratulating ourselves for all that climbing, we'll descend King's Mountain Road to Woodside. Please check the weather forecast beforehand and dress accordingly. Fast downhills can be chilly! Meet at 9:15 AM, ride out at 9:30 AM.
