The Route

We’re on a gentler, flatter ride to take in the beauty of East Bay countryside. For cyclists, Camino Tassajara and Highland Road usually serve as a convenient, but easy-to-forget pass-through after descending Morgan Territory rides from the north. Today, they are our quiet destination on this out-and-back ride. Once we ride beyond Danville, expect picturesque landscapes and selfie opportunities, and to see more old barns and cattle than people.

We leave Walnut Creek BART and ride toward Danville. After a brief coffee break, we turn eastward on Sycamore Valley Road. Once on Camino Tassajara, we’ll pass by Blackhawk (and stop at Diablo Vista Park for restrooms and water, if we encounter hot weather). Then it’s through the unincorporated area of Tassajara and on to Highland Road. Turning onto Collier Canyon Road, there’s a short section that rises to 5% (the only "steep" section on today’s ride). We’ll then take a left on Carneal Road to re-connect to Highland Road and double-back to Danville for lunch. We'll take an easy return to Walnut Creek by the Iron Horse Trail.

As always, bring sunscreen, money, water, and a snack, along with your helmet, and an extra tube and tire changing kit and butt butter.

We'll check the weather in the morning.  If there's likelihood of heavy rain, we will cancel and let riders who are registered know.  So please pre-register for this event.

Sweeps? No.

Is this a "no rider left behind" ride? No, but we will have a few regroups. We will keep an eye out for each other but if you are a new rider, please either know the route or bring a map in case you get dropped from the group.
